Techniques: single crochet in rounds and rows

Supplies:

Hook size 4.5

Hook size 3.5

2 orange buttons

velcro

Medium Worsted Weight yarn in:

Bulky weight white yarn

Abbreviations

Rd = round

ch = chain

hk = hook

st = stitch

ea = each

FO = fasten off

sl st = slip stitch

back lps = back loops

sc = single crochet

sc2tog = single crochet in two stitches to make one single crochet

 

Medical Bag with 4.5 hk in black

Rd 1: ch 20, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in next 17 ch, 3 sc in last ch, working around foundation ch, sc in 17, 3sc in last ch (41)

Rd 2: sc in 19, 2sc in 2sc, sc in 18, 2sc in last 2sc (45)

Rd 3: sc in 19, 2sc in 4sc, sc in 18, 2sc in 4sc (53)

Rd 4: sc in back lps only, around (53)

Rd 5-20: sc around (53)

Flap

Switch to working in rows:

to center your flap: Row 1: sc in 3, ch 1, turn

Row 2-8: sc in 26, ch 1, turn

Buttonholes

Row 9: sc in 4, ch 2, skip 2, sc in 14, ch 2, skip 2, sc in 4

sl st and FO black

Handles in black with 4.5 hk

Attach black with 2sc at the top and side of the flap, ch 25, attach to the other side of top flap with 2sc, sc back along the ch and sl st to beginning sc.  Fo and weave in end

Applique for Medical Bag:

White circle with bulky white and 4.5 hk:

Rd 1: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hk (6)

Rd 2: 2sc around (12)

Rd 3: (sc, 2sc) around (18)

Rd 4: (sc in 2, 2sc) around (24

sl st and FO white, leaving a long end for sewing

Cross with Red and 3.5 hook

Row 1: ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in next 8 ch, sl st and FO

Cross Sides (make 2)

Row 1: ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in next 3, sl st and FO

Finishing the Bag:

Sew the cross to the white circle.  Sew the circle to the bag.  Sew the two buttons on the bag, ensuring they line up with the buttonholes

 

Mask with 3.5 hk and light blue

Please note that the mask does fit quite small.  To make a larger mask, increase the number of beginning chains and add some rows

Row 1: Ch 15, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in next 13 ch (14)

Row 2-8 ch 1, turn, sc across (14)

Switch to working in rounds:

Rd 1: sc around the entire mask, working 3sc in each corner, and working the following in the top middle 4 stitches: hdc, dc, dc, hdc (this is for the nose). FO Blue

Rd 2: Attach medium weighed white yarn, sc around the entire mask, working hdc, dc, dc, hdc in the 4 previous center top st

Rd 3: sl st until you are at the side of your mask.  To make the ear strap: ch 30, sc to bottom, sl so the other side and repeat to make your second ear strap. sl st, fo and weave in ends

 

Band-aid with 3.5 hk in light brown

Rd 1: ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in next 4, 3 sc in last ch, working in foundation ch, sc in 5, 3 sc in last ch. sl st and FO. weave in end

Middle of band-aid in medium weight white:

Row 1: ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hk, sc in last sc (2)

Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc in 2. sl st, fo and sew to the middle of the band-aid. weave in the end.

 

Stethoscope -begin in grey with 4.5 hk:

Rd 1: ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd ch from hk

Rd 2: 2sc around (16)

Rd 3: sc in back lps only (16)

Rd 4 -5: sc around (16)

Rd 6: Switch to orange: sc around (16)

Rd 7: sc2tog around (8)

sl st, FO, stuff and sew closed

Attach orange to front posts between the colour change of grey and orange and sc around (16); sc around a second time. sl st and FO, weave in the end.

Attach orange to the front loops leftover from Rd 3.  sl st around to first sc and FO, weave in end.

Optional:

Crochet a small heart using red and 3.5 hk.  The one from Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom fits perfectly on the bottom of the stethoscope.  Sew on.

Stethoscope Straps:

Main strap in orange:

Rd 1: ch 2, 5 sc in 2nd ch from hk (5)

Rd 2-22: sc around (5)

You will now make two straps forking of the main strap

Rd 23: Close the main strap by sc2tog through both thicknesses of the strap, ch 16, sc down the ch in the back bumps, sc in same st as first ch, sc through both thicknesses of strap, ch 16, sc down the ch in the back bumps, sc in same st as the first ch, sc through both thicknesses. sl st and FO orange, weaving in the ends.

Rd 24: Attach grey to the top of one of the forked straps with a sl st, ch 1 and sc. ch 16, sc down the ch in the back bumps, sc in same st as first ch, sc through both thicknesses of the strap.  Repeat on the second forked strap

Earbuds make 2 in orange

Rd 1 ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hk (6)

Rd 2-4: sc around (6). Sew onto each grey forked strap by placing the grey slightly inside the orange earbud.

Sew the orange main strap to the stethoscope and weave in your ends.

 

Blood Pressure Cuff with 4.5 hk

Arm Band in dark blue:

Row 1: ch 51, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in ea ch down (50)

Row 2-8: ch 1, turn sc across (50)

Do one round: sc around the entire cuff, working 3sc in each corner. sl st and fasten off

Cut two pieces of velcro so that the armband can wrap around an arm and close like the real thing. Depending on the type of velcro you have, you can sew or hot glue into place.

Ok, I don’t know what these individual pieces are called, so please forgive my terminology!

The squeeze ball in orange

Rd 1: ch 2. 8 sc in 2nd ch from hk (8)

Rd 2: 2sc around (16)

Rd 3-8: sc around (16)

Rd 9: sc2tog around (8). Stuff

Rd 10: (sc, sc2tog) around (5)

Rd 11-16: sc around (5)

Switch to grey

Rd 17-26: sc around (5),

Rd 27: sc2tog around (2)

Now work in rows:

Row 1-10: sc in 2, ch 1, turn.

sl st, FO, and sew the 2sc rows in the middle inside of the armband

BP Monitor: begin with bulky white yarn

Rd 1: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hk (6)

Rd 2: 2sc around (12)

Rd 3: (sc, 2sc) around (18)

Rd 4: (sc in 2, 2sc) around (24) FO white

Rd 5:  In back lps only, attach orange, sc around (24)

Rd 6-7: sc around (24)

Pause here to embroider the front, using this as a guide:

Rd 8: (sc2tog, sc in 2) around (18)

Stuff

Rd 9: (sc2tog, sc) around (12)

Rd 10: sc2tog around (6). sl st, and FO.

Monitor STRAP – begin with orange 

Rd 1: ch 2, 5 sc in 2nd ch from hk (5)

Rd 2-7: sc around (5)

Switch to grey

Rd 8-17-: sc around (5),

Rd 18: sc2tog around (2)

Now work in rows:

Row 1-10: sc in 2, ch 1, turn.

sl st, FO, and sew the 2sc rows in the middle inside of the armband.  Sew the orange top of the strap to the bottom of the monitor.

 

Reflex Hammer in grey:

Rd 1: ch 2, 6sc in 2nd ch from hk (6)

Rd 2: sc around (6)

Rd 3: (sc, 2sc) around (9)

Rd 4: sc around (9)

Switch to orange

Rd 5-6: sc around (9)

Switch back to grey

Rd 7: (2sc, sc in 2) around (12)

Rd 8: (2sc. sc in 3) around (15)

Stuff

Rd 9: (sc2tog, sc) around (10)

Rd 10: sc2tog around (5)

sl st, sew closed

Reflex Hammer Handle in orange:

Rd 1: ch 2, 5sc in 2nd ch from hk (5)

Rd 2-9: sc around (5). sl st, FO and sew to bottom of the reflex hammer.

 

Thermometer

The thermometer has a ‘Happy – no fever’ side and a ‘Sad fever’ side.

Make two identical circles, one in green and one in red:

Rd 1: ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd ch from hk

Rd 2: 2sc around (16), sl st, FO

Use black to embroider a sad face on the red circle and a happy face on the green cirlce

Rd 3: attach orange in the back lps and sc around, sl st and FO

Sew both circle halves together, stuffing lightly.

Handle:

Start with grey:

Rd 1: ch 2, 4 sc in 2nd ch from hk

Rd 2-4 sc around. FO grey

Switch to orange

Rd 5-10: sc around, sl st and sew with the orange end to the thermometer bottom

Edging in grey

ch 23, FO. sew between the two orange sides of the circles.

 

Needle

Begin with orange:

Rd 1: ch 2, 7 sc in 2nd ch from hk, sl st to first sc, ch 1 (7)

Rd 2: in back posts only, sc around, sl st to first sc, ch 1 (7)

Rd 3: sc around, sl st to first sc, ch 1 (7)

Rd 4: 2sc around (14). sl st, FO, stuff lightly

Rd 5: Attach medium weight white yarn and sc around the back posts of Rd 3 (7)

Rd 6: (sc2tog, sc)twice, sc in last sc (5)

Rd 7-12: sc around (5) FO white

Rd 13: attach orange: 2sc around (10) FO orange

Rd 14: attach grey to the back posts of Rd 12 (attach to the white), sc around (5)

Rd 15: sc around (5)

Rd 16: sc2tog, sc

Rd 17: ch 1, sl st and FO

 

And voila!  You now have the perfect play medical kit for the little doctor and nurse in your life!
